Ask Matt!
How long have you been in business?
The Workman Company has been in business since 2000. Matt Workman is a Provo native and picked up the construction trade in the early 90s from a third- generation carpenter. He graduated from Utah Valley State College with a degree in construction management. Starting as a one-man crew building decks, he quickly expanded his organization with the finest craftsmen and skilled tradesmen.
What types of building projects do you do?
The Workman Company builds custom homes. We also finish basements, add onto existing spaces, and perform large home renovation projects. We continue to strive to set ourselves apart in the luxury custom home industry. We also do small commercial projects, such as tenant improvements.
What is your service area?
Our core focus is in the Utah County, which includes Alpine, Highland, Saratoga Springs, Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Orem, Provo, Springville, Mapleton, Spanish Fork, Salem, Cedar Hills, Woodland Hills, Elk Ridge, Payson and Santaquin. We also focus on South Salt Lake County, which includes South Jordan, West Jordan, Draper, Sandy and Bluffdale, and Wasatch County, which includes Heber, Timberlakes and Midway.
Where do we start?
Give us a call at 801-368-3433 or contact us here. We can give you a rough idea of costs right over the phone. We recommend you choose your contractor before you begin the design process. We can work with you to meet your individual needs and work to customize to your budget. We offer pre-construction services and can connect you with design professionals as we work together to scope your project. Once we have a set of engineered plans, we can offer guaranteed pricing as well as scheduling for your project.
How does the payment schedule work?
We ask for a small deposit to reserve your place in our schedule. Everything else is progressive billing. This means that as the work gets underway, you pay for what has been done to that point. Once we move into the finishing phase, we may also ask for deposits for special order products such as cabinets and flooring. The deposit will be applied to the final billing.
Progress billings are done at the beginning of each month. We can also work with your bank to complete construction draws. Thanks to our online management software, you will always know your financial obligations for the project. There are not any surprise costs at the time of invoicing.
Is your company licensed and insured?
The Workman Company is insured beyond state requirements. We are fully licensed for residential and commercial construction. Builder’s risk policies and bonding are available upon request.
How do you make sure that project is managed properly?
We take management very seriously. Project managers do frequent on-site inspections to make sure that the customer’s needs are being met. The project manager meets with clients on-site at least once a week to maintain consistent collaboration with selections and general progress of the project. We set up a secure project webpage at the beginning of each project. Here, all documents, change orders, selections, deadline dates, and a consistent log of photos showing the project’s progress are available 24-7.
How do you schedule construction projects?
Time is relative to each project. You don’t have to wonder who is working today and when trades are going to show up. You don’t have to wonder when decisions need to be made and products are chosen. It is all on your calendar with weekly reminders via email or text messaging. You can see a sample of this by clicking here.
